Creating the Results You Want

The gap between ideas and results can be closed with a written plan.

Have you ever crossed a stream? Even one solid rock between the banks can be enough to secure your footing and get you from one side to the other.  A detailed, written plan is the rock midway between concept and result.  Moving a plan out of your head and into a written format is the Launchpad for doing. Working the plan brings the idea to life. That’s the way to make change.

Change made in this way is clear, directed, structured, sequenced and doable.

Creating the Results You Want

The act of writing filters your ideas through a reality check. It solidifies your intentions and declares the plan to the universe and to yourself. When you document the steps necessary to achieve your targets, you go face to face with the three key milestones of forward movement – decision, belief, and action.

The writing can be in the format you prefer, from a long-form written step by step plan, to filling out a calendar, as long as the following three aspects of creation are completed.

It Takes a Decision – Change begins at the point where you make a decision to pursue an idea. Writing ideas down, not only tracks them, but forces you to evaluate and determine whether an idea is worthy of declaring it as a goal and committing. Once you decide an idea is a keeper and that you want to realize it, write it down in detail (how it looks and feels) and begin planning steps even if you aren’t sure of how to accomplish what you want. You may begin with small steps that lead you to the next level, and expect the future actions to be revealed at that point.

The book Write it Down, Make it Happen by Henriette Anne Klauser explains how the brain reacts to writing down ideas and goals and provides amazing stories depicting the act of writing as a catalyst for incredible results.

Believing you can do it is the next key milestone. There must be some belief along with some hope and faith or it wouldn’t make it to the written plan. However, that doesn’t mean that you feel sure or even confident that you can do what you want to do. If you are stretching yourself with this plan of yours, you should feel some fear and discomfort, but also a belief that it’s possible. If you want something but don’t think you can achieve it, then what would it take for you to believe that you could succeed? Do you need training, support, experience? If so, plan ways to get what you need so that your perception changes and you can develop beliefs that support your larger plan.

Action is the third and determining factor in taking your ideas to reality. As much as you might desire and decide to bring an idea to fruition, and believe in yourself, nothing will happen without taking action. The written plan is the springboard from which to act. Action does not come easily. Procrastination, resistance, and limiting beliefs will present themselves in every form. Something will come up to interfere with your plans, delaying and discouraging the planner. That’s where your written strategies and tactics serve as the trusty trail to return to when you get lost.

Whatever your plans for the future, if you are serious about seeing results and change in your life, create the plan now. Then decide, believe and act like the person you wish to be.
